Shooters on the Water
Boy do I have a horror story for ya'll.. BUT FIRST, look at these super cute senior photos I did with Danny! He had two seniors do their Senior Project with him the past few weeks and I got to tag along with them for some senior photos! Sky and Lily just graduated from Hawken, and they brought along their friend Tina. It was so fun to get to know more about them while we walked around the Flats to get some cool senior photos!
Now for the horror story, and you're going to want to read this..
We finished shooting at Shooters on the Water, that beautiful old bridge that's right next door, right on the river. You know, the one that has all of the ivy growing around it, and the sunset over there is unmatched? Yeah, that's the one.
Towards the end of the shoot, just as we were finishing up and the sun was setting, someone (which might just be me,) dropped their phone right through the small crack in the bridge. YEAH, I know, I'm the unluckiest girl in the world apparently.
The process of getting it back was not easy, nor was it fun. Danny and I crawled under the bridge at the end down by the river side, and I waited by the entrance while Danny crawled around trying to find a way to get to my phone. It was DISGUSTING under there, as I'm sure you can imagine. When he finally found the way in, he crawled out the side of the bridge so we could set out on another adventure to find some masks because the smell down there was unbelievable, and it was dusty and dirty.
We walked a little bit down the way to find the kitchen staff taking a break from another restaurant, and luckily one of the cooks went and grabbed us two masks, and we made our way back to the bridge.
By now, it’s getting pretty dark, and its getting dark FAST. We were on a time crunch. So Danny led the way, and we jumped down onto the side of the bridge where the other opening was. Danny went in first while I waited outside, having a panic attack because Iphones are expensive! Not to mention, I couldn’t remember the last time I had backed my phone up in the last six months.
He was talking to me the whole time, letting me know where he was and what was going on, and finally he emerges back out and tells me there’s a small opening under a rotting wooden beam going through the center of the bridge, but he couldn’t fit through it, so it was my turn to try and get in on the action. We switched jackets, him giving me the oversized hoodie I was originally wearing so that I wouldn’t get cut or hurt by any of the broken glass bottles under there, and I crawled my way in.
It was PITCH BLACK in there, and I was using his flashlight on his phone to see where I was going. When I finally shimmied my way under this beam, I was met with more darkness, and lots of crunchy old leaves. There were spiderwebs EVERYWHERE, and I immediately got the heebie-jeebies. I made my way through the darkness, stepping carefully on the leaves in case there were hidden broken bottles, or worse, SNAKES. It took a while to finally get to the area I had dropped my phone, and I was having trouble locating it because it was so dirty. When I finally turned his phone around to call my own, that’s when I saw it. I snatched that pink Iphone up so fast and bolted back the way I came. Danny was up on top of the bridge talking to me, and when I screamed after my finger touched something slimy, he thought something was really wrong. I was quick to let him know that I was alright, and that I screamed because there were a few slugs on my phone, but I flicked them off and headed back to the point of entry. I shimmied my way back under the beam, and mind you, I barely fit under it in the first place, and made it back to safety. Danny pulled me out of the ditch, and we headed back to our cars, meanwhile I had tears streaming down my face because I was slightly traumatized from the experience of it all.
I laughed and said “Just so you know, I will never be doing that again.” So my advice? Don’t pull your phone out while you’re walking along the cool bridge, because if you drop it, good luck getting it back.
